The Monday Demonstrations
September 4, 1989[edit]
The Monday demonstrations are non-violent demonstrations which originate in Leipzig (East Germany) to show support for holding democratic elections and enhanced mobility of its citizens. The peaceful protests which attract just a few hundred people on September 4th grow to over 70,000 participants in just one month. The cause quickly grows, and eventually the military becomes involved. However the enormous swell of support plays a key role in the fall of the Berlin Wall.
