Wouter Van Besien
Wouter Van Besien is a Belgian politician for the Green party. He was born in Bonheiden on the 1st of November 1971.
Political career[edit]
In his youth he was active in the Flemish youth organisations. He became national secretary of Chirojeugd-Vlaanderen, a Catholic Flemish youth organisation. In 2001 he started working as an employee of the Agalev party in Antwerp. In 2006 he became district magistrate of Borgerhout (a district of Antwerp). He was responsible for spatial planning , mobility, environment, communica-tions, information and urban planning. He has always shown his appreciation for the multicultural society. He pointed out the challenge to reconcile economy and ecololocy and the challenge of diversity as two key subjects. In May 2008 he was elected as first vice-president of Green!, the ideological successor to Agalev. In 2009 he became president of Groen!, where he stayed for four years. In 2014 he no longer ran as a candidate to lead the party. At the end of 2014 his term as president ends. In 2014 he became senator.

Van Besien has a masters degree in Sociology then he obtained a Master of Arts in Developing Area Studies from the University of Hull.
